Valley Road: History of Llanerch, Pennsylvania

Valley Road

Valley Road is the most irregularly shaped road in Upper Llanerch, as it is somewhat parallel to Bewley, Davis, and Lansdowne, but it curves in an inusual manner due to its topography. It didn't even exist in 1897, still being part of the Mary Alberston tract. In 1908, it was land part of the C.S. Taylor Estate. In 1913, it was carved out, but either unnamed or considered a continuation of Llandillo. The land on surrounding sides (with no houses built) were owned by W. Percival Johnson of 111 East Park Road. In modern times, Valley Road continues diagonally for many blocks into Darby Road, where it transitions into Rodman Avenue, which lasts for one block.

It is named for the fact that is it the lowest in elevation in all of Llanerch, taking a steep climb down when you enter from Park Road, and a slower decline when crossing from Llandillo. It is a truly beautiful and secluded section of the neighborhood obscured from view by old growth trees and its low elevation.
