History

Llanerch Woman's Club (also spelled Llanerch Women's Club) was a club part of a national movement of women who seeked community in these groups that were typically social gatherings, but also had political involvements as well. The organization most likely began in 1916, as Temple University has a page stating that Mrs. Lydia Gummere of 20 Tenby Road was president from 1916 to 1917, and that's around the time that the first mentions in the newspapers of the organization are. The first mention in the papers I can find of the organization is a December 1917 meeting regarding food conservation held at the Drexel Institute.

This time period of 1917 is also the same month where I find the first mention of the Junior's Club (also referred to as Sub-Juniors and Junior Women's Club) which was for young women who still wanted to civically participate in a community in the way that the adult women would.

In 1930, the club held some sort of pageant. Below is a photo of Johanna N. Harris of 111 East Park Road and Nettie Conrad of 150 South Eagle Road dressed for the occassion.

In 1936, Edna Hagy was president. By the latter half of 1936, the club celebrated its 20th anniversary, and Mrs. C.C. McCaffrey was president.

In 1940, new elections were held, and Cecelia Paul became president. Among other positions given were:
Mrs. Pallen S. Millick, first vice president
Mrs. Erroll B. Ellis, second vice president
Mrs. Joseph W. Trickett, secretary
Mrs. Arthur B. Favor & Mrs. Herbert Boone, treasurer and assistant treasurer

In 1960, Mrs. Burton M. England was president.

By 1962, Mrs. John A. Pilley was president.

In 1966, Mrs. C. Cromwell Keever was president. Her election notice oddly lists a Mrs. J.H. Pelley as the original president from 1914 to 1915, but every source in reference to the group's foundation lists 1916 as its start date.

The absolute last mention I can find of the organization that isn't in an obituary saying that an elder was a member of the club in her past was 1999.
